Safe Trading Tips
Use these tips when contacting people, applying for jobs, hiring staff, arranging transport, hiring Kokoda Trekking Staff, booking accommodation, requesting charters or buying and selling through TokMaket.
Jobs and Staff Available
- Employers should check identity, references, licences, certificates and work history before hiring.
- Candidates should confirm pay, work location, accommodation, meals, transport, hours and safety conditions before accepting work.
- Do not send passwords, bank logins or sensitive identity documents through TokMaket messages.
- Be careful with offers that ask you to pay money before receiving a job.
- Only upload resume details and contact information you are comfortable sharing with employers and TokMaket admins.
- Companies should keep candidate phone numbers, emails, resumes and messages private and use them only for genuine recruitment or work enquiries.
Before You Pay or Travel
- Confirm the person's name, phone number, location and role.
- Look for TokMaket verification badges, but do not rely on badges alone. Still confirm identity, route, price, timing and safety details yourself.
- Ask clear questions about price, availability, pickup, delivery, route, timing and payment terms.
- Be careful with urgent pressure, unusually cheap offers, copied photos or requests to send money before basic details are confirmed.
- Keep records of messages, receipts and payment details.
Verification Badges
- Email verified means the member clicked a TokMaket verification email.
- Phone, agent, business, tour operator, transport operator, community leader and Starlink location badges are trust signals added by admins after checks.
- Badges do not guarantee payment, delivery, quality, legal compliance, safety, permits, licences or availability.
Buying and Saliming Goods
- Check the item, quantity, condition and location before paying where possible.
- If you use Make Offer, write clearly whether freight, delivery to town, loading, packaging or pickup costs are included.
- An offer message is a negotiation record, not a completed sale or payment confirmation.
- Meet in a safe public or known place if practical.
- Do not share bank logins, password reset codes or identity documents through messages.
Services and Trade Work
- Confirm the provider's experience, work area, materials, price and timing.
- For higher-value work, agree the scope and payment stages before work begins.
- Ask for references or previous work examples if needed.
Group Buys
- Confirm the organizer, supplier, target quantity, final price, payment deadline and delivery plan before paying.
- Ask what happens if the group does not reach the target quantity or if freight, supplier price or delivery timing changes.
- Keep pledges and important decisions in TokMaket messages where possible.
Transport and Charter
- Confirm route, vehicle or aircraft type, operator, schedule, passenger or cargo limits and weather or road risks.
- Confirm whether the offer is a full charter, shared transport, backload or request only.
- For backload or empty-space posts, confirm the departure date and time, loading point, unloading point, available seats, available cargo kilograms, return-leg details and whether the space is still available.
- Ask what happens if the truck, PMV, boat or aircraft is delayed, full, cancelled or changes route.
- Check licences, permits, safety equipment and insurance directly with the provider where relevant.
Facebook and Messenger Sharing
- When you discover a listing from Facebook or Messenger, open the TokMaket listing page and check the current price, location, status and contact details.
- Social previews can be cached or out of date. The TokMaket listing page is the source of truth.
- Be careful of people who copy a TokMaket preview but ask you to pay through another account or contact a different phone number.
Kokoda Trekking and Kokoda Trekking Staff
- Confirm Kokoda Track permits, operator requirements and current local conditions before trekking.
- For Kokoda Group Buys, confirm the trek operator, available places, dates, payment terms, porter support, cancellation rules and whether the group has reached enough walkers before paying.
- Check guide, porter, food carrier or support staff experience directly. TokMaket does not employ or certify Kokoda Trekking Staff.
- Ask about emergency plans, first aid, communications, insurance, fitness requirements, equipment, food and accommodation arrangements.
- Respect local communities, land, culture, campsites and environmental requirements.
Resorts, Village Stays and Accommodation
- Confirm the exact location, inclusions, cancellation terms, booking method and transport arrangements.
- Use the official booking contact or page provided by the operator where possible.
